Behind The Mountain by Edwidge Danitcat is a great historical fiction book because it is a true story and there is very good literary writing. One example of factual information is in Haiti when bombs went off during the election of the president and many people died as a result (53). Another example is Haitians were not treated well, because in Haiti they were not free to do what they want and to speak what they feel. Daniticat writes with detail and description. One example is when Celliane said, “I wish the people who throw the bombs at the buses could see that not only do they hurt the bodies of people like Maman and me, but they wound our souls.” (p50.) I enjoyed this book a lot and recommend for anyone looking for a dramatic story about Haitian history.
