Blogs are great

Blogs this year were very fun. My favorite part of it was having my cindy story on it. I also liked getting comments.  One of the things I learned from my blog is writing much better and I learned about kids from other schools blogs I even saw a boy’s blog that was about skateboarding! I am not going to continue my blog again because it took along time but it was still very fun.

Wizard Of Oz

Filed under: Uncategorized — c15bw at 9:05 am on Thursday, May 31, 2007

Our class read the book Wizard Of Oz by Frank Baum and we watched the movie. I don’t think the movie did a good job of telling the story like the book. One reason is that in the book the talking trees come later and in the movie they come much sooner. Another reason is the mice are not in the movie just the book. Another reason is Dorothy is way too old because in the book she was much younger. Another reason is in the book you didn’t see the wicked witch of the west a lot but in the movie you do. I thought they were both good even though they had some differences.

Plymoth is great!

What surprised me about Plymoth is the activities. I thought we would sit and listen to a lot of Pilgrim history. But we actually did other things like play games and we also dressed up like Pilgrims and Pilgrim babies.

I expected great food and as I expected the food was amazing. We had turkey pottage, pear pie and cooked carrots.

We went to a Wampanoag homesite and the Mayflower 2 and we visited a Pilgrim village from 1627. It was really cool because we saw actors pretending to be Pilgrims who came on the Mayflower. Mayflower 2 was cool because we saw what the Mayflower looked like. Also on the Mayflower 2 we saw beds we saw the place where the captain steers and we saw some people on the ship also.

Forced Immigration By C15BW

Filed under: Uncategorized — c15bw at 9:46 am on Thursday, April 12, 2007

This year in Edinger house we studied forced immigration. We learned that it is not right to take people away from their home and make them be slaves because of their heritage and color.

We read our teacher’s book called Africa Is My Home. It was about Sarah Margru Kinson, a girl on the slave ship Amistad. The slaves on the ship killed the people who stole them and then the slaves went to jail. They had a trial in America and America won. Then they were free. I learned a lot about slavery and the African culture in the book.

A member of our class’s dad is from Mali, Africa so this person brought in lots of cool African dolls, clothes and jewelry. I thought it was very cool.

We also had a poet come in and perform some of her poems. Her name is Natasha Trethewey. We wrote poems about people on the Amistad and then we performed them for Natasha. “Amistad in Spanish means friendship but that is just a saying because the ship is not friendly at all,” says one of my classmates.

Skateboard Jam

Filed under: Uncategorized — c15bw at 8:32 am on Wednesday, March 21, 2007

In a wonderful place called Malibu in L.A. there is a very cool 16-year-old named Jason Tryle. Jason is a punk he usually wears baggy shorts and Element shirts. He has dark brown eyes and shaggy hair. Jason is amazingly good at skateboarding and surfing, but skateboarding is his best.

Jason has a mother and a father. They are very wealthy, but the only problem with his parents is that they don’t pay much attention to him. They are also not very nice to Jason. Like for his birthday he got a pen that had no eraser and had bite marks on it. And he has to do all the work and cook every meal even though he can’t cook for his life.

Jason is not very popular. In school, he is called stupid and stuff like that. Jason says, “I am very good at skateboarding” to the other kids in his grade that skateboard. Tomorrow there is a big skateboard tournament and Jason is going to compete in it.

Right after school he raced home and got his skateboard. Jason was on his way and skateboarding to go to the competition, when he tripped on a stick and his board broke in half. Jason was very upset. He walked in shame and then he a saw man that looked like Bam Margera. Bam went up to Jason and said, “I am your fairy godfather.”

Jason said, “I don’t believe in fairy godfathers.” Then Jason’s fairy godfather zapped Jason’s old skateboard into an amazing Element skateboard. He thanked his fairy godfather and said, “Now I believe you.” Jason only had 45 minutes before the competition started. Before Jason left his fairy godfather said he could have one more wish. So Jason wished for his parents to pay more attention to him and come to the competition. His fairy godfather granted Jason’s wish.

But right before he left the fairy godfather said, “All your wishes will turn to dust at 5:00pm.”

So Jason was on his way to the competition. Five minutes later Jason was at the competition. It was time to skateboard, but Jason only had an hour. In the first round Jason came in first and then the same in the second round. He went all the way to last round with his brand new amazing skateboard. Jason won, but right when he was about to get his trophy he looked at his watch and remembered that his fairy godfather said his skateboard and his wish would turn to dust. It was 4:59pm so he ran right away. On his way home he left his helmet at the competition.

Bam Margera, Jason’s godfather, found Jason and asked, “ Do you want to go on tour with me and go to competitions with me?”

Jason said, “Of course I would.” At the first competition Jason got 2nd place. In 1st place was a skateboarder named Rodney Mullen, in 3rd place was Eric Koston, and in 4th place was Bam. Jason said, “ This is the best day of my life.”

When Jason got home he told his parents that he won and they were much nicer to him. They started doing most of the work because they noticed they weren’t that nice to him. When Jason woke up the next morning and read the newspaper, he saw on the front page it said, “Jason Tryle is the best new skate boarder in the world!” Jason was so happy he almost cried. When Jason sat up from the table he checked the answering machine. There was 500 messages saying “congratulations’ and ‘you’re the best”. He had a message from almost every pro he had ever heard of.

Now two years later Jason is as famous as Tony Hawk!
Jason now lives with his girlfriend in Malibu.
Once a week Jason has a skateboarding competition.
As you can imagine Jason always gets either 1st 2nd or 3rd place in every competition.
Jason is on T.V. a lot doing interviews. Some of the competitions are on T.V. also.
Bam and Jason are still partners and always skate in the same tournaments and competitions.

Now Jason has a great life. He is an amazing skateboarder and he is famous. His parents like him more, he has lots of friends and he also has a girlfriend.

Amistad Poem

Filed under: Uncategorized — edinger at 8:22 am on Saturday, February 24, 2007

Four men when in a rice field seized me.

Leaving behind my wife and child.

It was the worst day of my life.

I was two weeks in traveling to Lomboko.

Who were those white ghosts putting me on the slave ship?

I was so tired and hungry I thought I might die.

Now I am in a jail in a strange land.

This jail is terrible. I can’t even think what ill happen to me.

I just want to leave this horrible place.

Will I ever be free?

Sarah Margru Kinson

Sarah Margru Kinson is a great book by my teacher Monica Edinger. The African language in this book is different than the English language that we all know. I like this language because it is different. The language in this book is Mende. Here are some numbers in Mende “One — e-ta_two — fe-le_three — sau-wa_four — na-ni_five — do-lu_six — we-ta_seven — waw-fe-la_eight — wai-ya-gba_nine — ta-u_ten — Pu “. It is very hard for Sarah at first to understand these white strangers’ language but she managed to learn it.

There is also some great literary writing like, “What are those strange people who look like ghosts?”

This is a very good book so when it is published you should definitely read it.
