My Final Post

Filed under: Uncategorized — c15ai at 8:30 am on Monday, June 11, 2007

Hi, it’s me; this will be my final post for all my readers. This blog was a good thing for me because I learned more about blogs and how to write a post. Things like funny words, not to much boring stuff are good in a post. I did not think too much about it. I only wrote what was expected and nothing else. I think that some people really got into it in the class, but I didn’t. I did get some editing skills out of this, but very very little. I did not really like it because I feel that I’m the kind of person that does not want to share with the world what has happened to me. It was fun, but I would not do it of I had a choice. I think that my posts were good and that people read them. I guess I just was not getting it. I hope you liked my blog.

Oz To Oz

Filed under: Uncategorized — c15ai at 9:06 am on Thursday, May 31, 2007

Our class is having a study on The Wizard of Oz. We read the original book and took notes on it. Them we watched the movie. This post is about how well the adaptation of the movie to the book.
The movie is NOT a good adaptation to the book. Many things were changed left out or other things were added on. I did like the movie all though.
In the book the main character Dorothy is very young and very small, but in the movie she is as big as the Lion! At one point in the book everybody knows they go to the Wizard of Oz. In the book they each go by their selves to the Wizard one person per day. But in the movie they all go to Oz at the same time and don’t have to wait. One Huge thing is in the book it’s all real, but in the movie it’s just a dream! I hate that. Another one is in the book the slippers are silver. In the movie they are ruby red.
On the up side— it’s not completely off. A lot of the poetry and settings are the same in the movie. They include the main settings of the book witch was good. All of the main characters were included like the Munchkins and the Flying Monkeys. It was a good movie and a long one at that. But the book is the best.

The movie is a good to watch if you are a kid. Its very creative like the book. If you read the book first you might think that it is a bad movie in comparison. But that does not matter in the end. It’s ok.

We’re back and I’m ready to talk about it!!!

In one of my other posts I said what I thought it would be like on are Plymouth trip. Well I’m back and ready to tell you about it.
When we got there we put our stuff in the room and did some safety stuff. Then we took a bus over to Plymouth Rock. It was pretty big and it had 1620 engraved in it. Then we went to Burial Hill and saw a lot of graves of the pilgrims. We even got to see William Bradford’s grave.
Then we went to the Mayflower 2. On the M.2. We talked to some of the people on it and they told us their stories.
When it time for supper we had turkey pottage, bread and butter, carrots, prunes, grapes, cheese and pair pie. The pottage was not very good like I guest, but I ate it because it kind of tasted like gravy. Other then that the supper was cool. There was an apple citer and fake pewter plate it was so awesome.
After supper we did 4 activities the first one three people dressed up like the pilgrims would dress. One person as a man, a lady, and a baby. The man would were a pair breeches and shirt, but his has was sort of like the ones we were know. Then we went into a theater and played some games that they would have played. One of them was riding on a stick with a fake horse head on the front. One other game was 9 pins. It was like bowling, but you could throw the ball, there are 9 pins and the ball is not heavy. Then we went to 2 different pilgrim homes and got into 4 groups and tried t see the differences between the houses. After that my group went to a room to try to write with quill pens. We got to write our names. After that we had a snack and went to bed. In the morning we had breakfast and left and went to the gift shop. Then we put all of are stuff on the bus. After that we went to a pilgrim village and saw some homes and talked to dressed up people. Then we went to lunch. Then we drove home.

Our Plymouth Trip

This post is about what I think Plymouth will be like when we go next week. I think that wee will be doing what the Pilgrims to do. Like eating with you hands and stuff like that. My brother c13ai told me about that so I’m pretty sure that I know what will happen. My brother also told me that the people there are all dressed up like the pilgrims. That means the shirts with big shoulders and petty coats. So I don’t know what else to think but like I said I think I am ready.

Our Forced Immigration Study

Filed under: Uncategorized — c15ai at 9:50 am on Thursday, April 12, 2007

At The Dalton School in the 4th grade we study forced immigration and slavery. My class read a book called the Amistad. We learned that Amistad means friendship in Spanish.
Monica Edinger wrote a book called Africa is My Home. The book is about a girl on the Amistad named Sarah Margru Kinson. Our class read the book and took notes on it so we could write a post on it. The book is not published yet, but it is really good. (Read my other post about it).
The poet Natasha Trethewey came to our classroom two times. The first time she came she read us some of her poems. When she left the first time we all wrote Amistad poems. When she came back we read our poems to her and they were recorded on a pod cast. (You can hear it on our blog at Blogs.Dalton.org/edinger/).
My classmate brought in a bunch of cool things from Africa. He said, “They were all my dad’s.” He brought in clothes, a statue and some jewelry. Ms. Edinger also lived in Sierra Leone, Africa for a period of time. So she showed us some pictures and a slide show.
Our forced immigration study included many interesting things. We used books, poems, blogs, artifacts, and personal experience to learn about forced immigration and Africa.

Johnerella

Filed under: Uncategorized — c15ai at 8:32 am on Wednesday, March 21, 2007

“Please let me go please!” said John.
“No I will not pay period!!” said his stepmother.
“But I took the exams and got into Hunter College,” said Johnerella
“No, I’m not going to pay for college and that’s final,” said his stepmother.
Poor John. His mother died when he was only 6. Then his father got remarried to a woman named Ingrid who had a son that was 3. Soon after that his father died and John had to do all the work.  His stepbrother got older and started calling him Johnerella because his parents died.  Even when he turned 18 he was still working! Poor Johnerella — if he didn’t go to college he might be stuck working for them the rest of his life!
But one day while ironing his stepmother’s underwear Johnerella saw an announcement on television for a special game show. The prize would be a college scholarship!  Now Johnerella had a plan — he would go on the game show and try to win the scholarship.
The day of the game show Johnerella went to the game show set. When Johnerella came on the TV that his mother was watching, her jaw dropped to the ground.
“Hi, I’m your host, Bob, and tonight we have a special contestant trying to win a scholarship!!” said the host Bob.
“ Thank you very much Bob,” replied Johnerella.
“Tonight you will have to eat 15 pies in two minutes to win your prize. So how do you feel?” asked Bob.
“Like I’m going to be sick,” moaned Johnerella.
“Good that’s how you’re supposed to feel. Now let’s get started.”
So Johnerella began eating as the crowd cheered, “1, 2, 3, 4! ” and he ate all the pies. Now all he had to do was tell his mother he was now going to college.  She said maybe.
Finally it was the week he was supposed to go to college, but two days before he went his stepmother would not let him go.  Even if he went she would not get him supplies. Secretly Johnerella had worked for others and had the amount of money he needed to buy supplies. So who cared what she said? The next morning his stepmother found a note in the kitchen - HE WAS GONE!!!!
Down at Hunter Johnerella had already found a dorm room and roommate named Will.  John got through all his classes. He was training to be a banker. He also got his driver’s license because his stepmother would not let him have one.  Finally he was just a college kid doing his thing: being pushed around by mean kids, getting zits, stuff like that.
He got through all his college years and now was a great banker. He had a great family (his wife Isabel and his kid Max) and a nice home.  What ever happened to his stepfamily?  Well, they did not pay their bills and now live in a cardboard box.
Years later John got a letter from Hunter. He read it to his kid and wife
“Hunters having a reunion, and we are all invited,” said John. So his family went and ran into WILL!!
“Hello Will how is it going?” asked John.
“Fine, just fine and you?” replied Will.
“Fine. So how do you like the party?” asked John.
“It’s good, ” said Will as he looked around.
So John partied all night long and was dancing and eating.  Then he went home with his family and just fell on the sofa and went to sleep.
Years later he was walking down the street and found his stepfamily lying on the ground.  They begged him to take them with him and being the kind person he was,  he took them to his house for a while.
“Thank you so much John, ” they said.
“Any time stepmother.”
So John went on with his life taking care of his family, going to work, and all that other stuff.  He lived happily ever after.

Today I visited Puffypuff’s blog. Their blog is one of the many blogs on the main blog from Fairbanks, Alaska. In one of his posts he talks about cleaning his desk. He said that he hates cleaning because it’s boring and it takes long. I for one agree. It was sort of weird, but I liked it.

Friendship

Filed under: Uncategorized — c15ai at 12:34 pm on Friday, February 23, 2007

The Amistad is the Spanish word for
Friendship
But they are wrong.
This ship is a prison.
It’s a cold place in the lonely darkness.
It’s like you are all alone with white ghosts.
Walking around ready to eat you.
What I am telling you is there is no friendship on the
Amistad.
